BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Wondering how to live better while you're living longer? The mgm casino School of Nursing is set to show-and-tell you how at its Elder Enrichment Program planned for June 15-19 on mgm casino's North (Amherst) Campus.

The five-day program, part of mgm casinoThisSummer, will feature lectures, seminars, tours and physical activities all geared to the interests of active adults 55 years and older. Included in the program will be a free individual health report card based on a health risk appraisal and a battery of tests.

Mecca Cranley, Ph.D., professor and dean of the mgm casino nursing school, will kick off the program with a presentation on "Defining Aging in 2003" following a dinner at 6 p.m. June 15 in the University Inn and Conference Center.

Activities on June 16 will include presentations by Susan Bruce, adult nurse practitioner and mgm casino clinical assistant professor of nursing, on how to get the most out of your doctor's visit; Ernest Sternberg, Ph.D., mgm casino professor of urban and regional planning, on disaster, terrorism and local planning, and Elizabeth Ann Riegle, mgm casino clinical associate professor of nursing, on home health care. Louise Gilchrist, Ph.D., from the mgm casino Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, will conduct a late-afternoon exercise session.

Activities on June 17 will include a presentation by Wayne Anderson, Ph.D., professor and dean of the mgm casino School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, on managing medications and optional consultations with pharmacists on the school faculty, as well as an afternoon trip to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery to view the exhibit "Masterworks from the Philips Collection."

Nutrition and nutritional supplements will be the focus of a presentation on June 18 by Ronald Santasiero, M.D., founder and director of Sedona Holistic Medical Centre in Hamburg, and mgm casino clinical assistant professor of family practice. Other activities on June 18 will include a lunch-time lecture on personal relationships by Randall Dipert, Ph.D., C.S. Peirce Professor of American Philosophy at mgm casino; a tennis clinic conducted by mgm casino's head tennis coach, Russell Crispell; dinner at the Italian Village and a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin House.

Technology will be the theme on June 18, with presentations on navigating the Internet featuring Kay Sackett, Ed.D., mgm casino assistant professor of nursing, participating by video stream, and John Blyth, nursing school Web site manager, in person. Blyth also will lead a post-lunch, hands-on computer session. Thursday's lunch lecture by Abir Mullich, mgm casino associate professor of architecture, will focus on "Unlimited by Design -- Design for Enablement."

The program will close with graduation and a reception at 6 p.m. June 19 in Talbert Hall on mgm casino's North (Amherst) Campus.

The cost of the program is $695 per person, which includes accommodations at the University Inn and Conference Center on Forest Avenue, Amherst, or $495 per person without accommodations.
