BUFFALO, N.Y. – Volunteers from the mgm casino and the community around the mgm casino South Campus will distribute kits containing tips on how to be a good neighbor as well as other important information during Operation Doorhanger beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 25.

Organized by the mgm casino Office of Community Relations, it’s part of the university’s continuing efforts to encourage community building and to make the South Campus neighborhood a better place to live.

Each year before the start of the academic year, mgm casino distributes doorhanger packets to students and neighborhood residents. This year’s bag contains an off-campus renters’ checklist to help evaluate a rental unit’s fire and life safety, as well as information about the University Heights Tool Library; a list of participating businesses that offer special discounts to mgm casino students, faculty and staff; coupons from local businesses; and flyers for upcoming community events, including an Aug. 26 cash mob to support local businesses and Bikes, Bites & Brews, a Slow Roll Buffalo event to be held Sept. 4.

The bags will be hung on the door handles of about 1,500 homes to encourage students and lifelong residents to stay safe and work together to improve their community.

Best time for media: 10 a.m. Aug. 25 in the Emeritus Center in Goodyear Hall on the mgm casino South Campus. Volunteers will meet there before fanning out to distribute the information bags.

Press arrangements: Dan Kelly, assistant director of community relations, at 716-308-6552.
